The weather outside might be frightful, but your skin can still be delightful. Yes, you can help your skin fight the plights of winter by simply ensuring that you continue to care for it and that you ensure that you take heed of the advice below.
Change your moisturizing routine
Even if you swear by a specific type of moisturizer and have always thought you would never use anything but it if you truly want to protect your skin during the winter than you’re going to have to. You’re going to have, simply, because some moisturizers work wonders in the spring and the summer, and not in the winter.
When it comes to changing your moisturizer of choice, make sure you opt for one that comes with the tag of being an ‘ointment’ and is oil-based, rather than being water-based. This is because the oil in oil-based moisturizers helps to form a proactive layer of the skin that helps it both retain moisture and fight off the harsh climate of winter.
And, when you do change your moisturizer and skin care regime in general, make sure you’re moisturizing more often!
Don’t forget the sunscreen
Yes, you read that correctly: don’t forget the sunscreen. You shouldn’t forget to put sunscreen on on particularly sunny days because even the winter sun can cause damage to your skin. In fact, if this winter sun is combined with the glare of snow, then it can do even more damage to your skin than the summer sun can.
So, make sure you’re not forgetting to apply sunscreen to the areas of your skin that are exposed to the winter sun — when it comes to choosing what type of sunscreen to apply, try opting for one that has a broad spectrum.
Your lips will need extra care
The cold climate and conditions of winter will not be kind to your lips, that’s for sure. Simply — especially when exposed to cold, wintery climates for too long and too often, i.e. every day as you walk to work — your lips will become cracked and dry in the wintertime, and this will lead them to look away you probably don’t want to look and feeling a way you definitely won’t want them to feel (they’ll hurt and be sore, a lot). So, make sure you’re giving your lips the extra care they both need and deserve this winter; try doing so by choosing a tinted lip balm with coconut oil as your go-to lip balm as this will help your lips retain the moisture they need to be both strong and uncrackable.
Your hands will need extra care too
Finally, make sure you give your hands the care they need because they care for you every day! Well, your brain asks them to care for you and do things for you, but that’s not the point. The point is, your hands do a lot for you each day, and the least they deserve is to be looked after when the bitterly cold climate of winter is constantly attacking them. This means wearing gloves whenever outside in the cold and ensuring that you moisturize them at a point in your day or night where they won’t be touching anything and thus rubbing off the cream that you apply to them.
Winter is the enemy of your skin, but you can help your skin fight this enemy by remembering the advice above.
